Tom Mohan's side had lost 2-0 to the same opponents on Tuesday but the Irish head coach was pleased to record a clean sheet as preparations build for the UEFA U17 Championships qualifiers in Finland later this month.

"We played much better than on Tuesday and we dominated in the second half particularly and created numerous chances.

"Canice Carroll had a goal disallowed for offside, Caoimhin Fowler had a good chance too and Jayson Molumby forced a very good save from their keeper. Overall it was a much improved display.

"It shows a lot of promise. Lee O'Connor and Aaron Connolly who are still U16 both also impressed.

"We defended well with Paul Martin in goal and defence doing well. We've only ourselves to blame for not winning it. It's very frustrating when you are creating chances and not scoring but we can seek to improve that end of things.

"It's a matter now of building on these two games and putting the squad together for the qualifiers in Finland. It's always good to see players first hand. We've other players coming back from injury and we will be getting to as many games as we can before finalising the squad for Finland."

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: Paul Martin, Canice Carroll, James Finnerty, Ryan Nolan, Rian O'Sullivan, Lee O'Connor, Alex Byrne, Caoimhin Fowler, Jayson Molumby, Callum Nicell, Aaron Connolly. Subs: Daniel McKenna for O'Sullivan 14 mins, Declan Rice for Nicell 36, Kian Flanagan for O'Connor 45, Jack Clarke for Byrne 55, Michael Cregan for Connolly 70.
