
In their inaugural game, Dundalk hosted Bobby Smith holders Clondalkin ETB in Oriel Park, Dundalk. The conditions were far from perfect with rain and strong wind making football difficult for both sides. It was stalemate at the break with Dundalk playing into a stiff breeze.
The second-half was dominated by Clondalkin ETB with Dundalk goalkeeper Mark Byrne making some fine saves. The deadlock was broken by Emmanuel Odeniyi after a lovely through ball. The second came shortly after when some sloppy play at the back by Dundalk was punished by Joshua Ojelabi. Clondalkin sealed the victory with a tap in from Winston Lombe on 90 minutes. Aaron Cummins grabbed a consolation for Dundalk with the last kick of the game.
The game ended 3-1 to Clondalkin.
