Since the tournament began in 1982 - initially at Under-16 level before moving to Under-17 in 2002 - Ireland have been involved 10 times and won it once in 1998.
In those appearances, they have met Belgium three times and Czech Republic twice, but have yet to come across Greece in tournament football at this age group.
As recently as 2018, Ireland faced off against Belgium when a 2-0 defeat gave them the worst possible start to the Championships. Before that they lost 2-1 to the same opponent in 1993 but did beat them in 1988 with a narrow 1-0 scoreline.
In 1993, Ireland lost 2-1 to Czech Republic in a tournament played in Turkey, and they met again the next year when Ireland were the host nation but the visitors came out on top again with a 1-0 win.
