A lifelong football fanatic, Frankie also worked for many years as a match day steward with the Ireland team at Lansdowne Road and the Aviva Stadium and was also well known for his work with Shelbourne FC at Tolka Park.

FAI President Gerry McAnaney said: “This sad news has touched so many of the Irish football community and on behalf of the FAI, I extend our sympathies to Frankie’s family and his many friends in Swords Celtic and Shelbourne football clubs. Frankie was a great football man and only last year we honoured his contribution to Irish football on the occasion of his 80th birthday. May he rest in peace.”
