While the focus will be on Dundalk's trip to Norway to face Molde, almost 3,000km away in Istanbul an Irish team will be officiating the tie between Qarabag and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Rob Hennessy (pictured above) is to take charge of his first match in the UEFA Europa League group stages, and will be assisted by Allen Lynch, Emmett Dynan and Paul McLaughlin.
Speaking to FAI.ie from Istanbul, Hennessy said he is looking forward to the opportunity in the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium.
"I’m delighted to have been selected to officiate in this game alongside Allen, Emmet and Paul. It’s always a great honour to represent our country and this appointment is testament to the hard work and commitment shown by each of us through a challenging year."
It is the second time, two Irish teams were represented in the same UEFA Europa League matchnight. In October 2011, Shamrock Rovers lost 2-1 to PAOK in Greece, while referee Alan Kelly and his team officiated in Austria between Sturm Graz and Anderlecht.
Hennessy's selection caps a fine period for Irish officials. Michelle O'Neill was an Assistant Referee last week as World Cup quarter-finalists France booked their place at the UEFA Women's EURO 2022 with a 3-0 win over Austria.
