Ireland have been drawn alongside Portugal, Serbia, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan with the qualifying campaign set to begin in March 2021.

Stephen Kenny's side will find out the fixture schedule for Group A tomorrow with qualifying matches set to take place from March and through to November 2021.

Ten group winners will qualify automatically with the ten group runners-up set to go into the play-offs.

"It is an exciting group. Portugal are the European Champions and the Nations League Champions. Serbia, of course, have a great pedigree. Luxembourg are a vastly improved team and Azerbaijan, so it's an exciting group," said Ireland boss Stephen Kenny.

"The fact that it's a five-team group means that we don't have the congested three-game window in March, three competitive fixtures. So it does mean we go back to the more traditional two games in March. We'll find out about the fixtures tomorrow of course but that's a positive.

"It's a new campaign and I think we'll have a lot of players back for March, that's exciting. We've given ten players their international competitive debut in the last couple of months and I think combined with a lot of the experienced players who come back in, it means our squad will be a lot stronger in March.

"It is really exciting now and it is something we're really looking forward to. Hopefully we'll see progress over the period with the pandemic and potentially welcome our fantastic supporters back into the stadium soon."
