Teenager Josh will be laid to rest later this week, while football in Wicklow is still coming to terms with the sudden death on Sunday of long serving secretary and former WDSL chairperson Jimmy.
Speaking on behalf of the FAI and the Irish football community, President Gerry McAnaney said: “We have been shocked by these two deaths in the past week and I know Irish football will remember Josh and Jimmy and offer their families and friends all the support we can give them in this difficult time.
“I have spoken to officials at both St Kevin’s Boys and Bohemians following Josh’s tragic death and we have offered them support services for all their players and members as they cope with this sad loss of such a talented young footballer.
“I knew Jimmy personally from many events over the years and I have conveyed our deepest sympathies to chairman John Earley and everyone at the SFAI where Jimmy made such a contribution over so many years. His loss will be greatest felt in his beloved Wicklow and our thoughts and prayers go to his family and everyone involved with our game in the county. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam Dílis.”
