After an interview process the 35-year-old Cork native was chosen as the preferred candidate for the newly created role.

This is a new position that has arisen as a result of the CFAI and IUFU agreeing to join their current representative teams together to form one national team for all Third Level students.

Yelverton will report to FAI High Performance Director Ruud Dokter and the Colleges and Universities International Committee.

He has been working as an FAI Football Facilitator at University College Cork since August 2008.

The former Colaiste Stiofan Naofa student represented the Colleges FAI on several occasions and received a soccer scholarship to the University of North Carolina. He played for Cork City at under 21 then upon his return from the US he played for Cobh Ramblers and Wexford Youths finishing up his playing career with Leeds AFC in the Munster Senior League.

His coaching career began in the United States where he spent four years as Director of Football at FC Carolina Alliance. A UEFA A licensed coach, he has worked for a number of years in the FAI Emerging Talent Programme and also with manager Colin O’Brien and the Republic of Ireland Under 15 international team.

Greg has an extensive knowledge of Colleges and Universities football through his work as the FAI Football Facilitator in UCC and last summer he was appointed as assistant coach to Sue Ronan with the Ireland Women’s team at the World University Games in South Korea and has also acted as coach to the Irish Universities representative side.

Yelverton is excited about his new appointment and anxious to get to work assembling a squad ahead of some exciting international fixtures in the coming months against the university sides of Scotland, Wales and France.

"I’m delighted and honoured to have been appointed to this new prestigious position in Colleges and Universities football. I am well aware of the quality of players involved in Third Level Football and the exciting fixtures that are coming up," he said.

"So I’ll be busy making sure that I get around to the upcoming trials plus the many league and cup games prior to naming any squad and then developing a good style of play for the side and make playing for this new-look team a positive experience for all those selected."
