This match will help the team prepare for three UEFA qualifiers in October against Belarus, Faroe Islands, and Iceland.

The team has won five out of six UEFA matches in the past year with the most recent being a 1-0 win against France.

Coach David Bell is hoping for some of his more experienced players to lead the younger players in the friendly.

“Finland will be a strong side, but it’s really about how we perform. We want to see how the team competes because it can be a big jump up to Under 17 level for some of the younger players.

“We have three players in Tiegan Ruddy, Sadhbh Doyle, and Heather Payne who are the most experienced in the squad and I would hope that they can help the younger players come along.”

Tiegan Ruddy, Leanne Kiernan, and Sadhbh Doyle all recently participated in the Wales training camp with Ireland Women’s National Team and will utilize this experience in upcoming matches.

In six appearances as a midfielder for the WU17 team, Ruddy has played 350 minutes, has one goal, and has one assist. Doyle, a defender, has five appearances with 400 minutes played, and Payne, a forward, has six appearances with 347 minutes played and two goals, both against Andorra, and recipient of the WU16 player of the year.

Other key goal scorers for the Republic of Ireland are Saoirse Noonan with a goal against Andorra and a goal against Hungary, Leanne Kiernan with a three goals total against Ukraine, Turkey, and France, Lauren Kelly with four goals total against Ukraine, Andorra, Turkey, and Hungary
