The Irish captain put in a hard shift on Thursday afternoon as the Irish went down to the tournament favourite’s Ukraine by 6-0.

Evans believes Ireland can come through their remaining two games and qualify for the medal play-off’s, and feels a fixture with the host country at Rio 2016 is an exciting prospect

“We’ll be playing Brazil in front of a full stadium of about 7,000 people,” smiled the 26-year-old Ireland captain, who plays for Leinster Senior League outfit Glebe North.

“I think Ukraine are a stronger side than Brazil, in terms of opponents I think we had a tougher game yesterday than what I would expect tomorrow.”

“But again the group we’re in they’re all going to be tough games, there all going to be battles,” added Evans, Brazil having beaten Great Britain 2-1 in their opening group A game.

“I think we can build on the Ukraine game, we still have two games to put it right that’s the good thing about tournament football.”

While disappointed with the result against Ukraine, Ireland manager Barry Ferguson has not given up hope on Ireland making it to the medal play-off games.

“We're approaching it much the same, we're looking to get a result out of the game” declared Ferguson ahead of the game with host nation.

“I'd imagine there will be a few more people here for the game Saturday and it will be a better atmosphere and I think there are improvements we can make on today and hopefully take them into Saturday.”

Football aside Evan’s is enjoying the experience of Rio 2016, having previously played for Ireland at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics.

“I was watching the rugby sevens and I was thinking, it won’t be long now and that’s where we will be playing,” smiled Evans.

“All year round you’ve got your regular schedule,” added Evans. “You’re playing for your football team, you’re training and you’re working hard in the competitive matches.

“I think we’ve approached this well, through our training camp in Uberlandia and speaking to other teams I think we had better preparations.

“Our preparations has been as good as they can be, so it’s just about focusing now and being as good as we can be.”

The game will broadcast live on RTÉ 2 television from 11pm on Saturday night.
