One of the highlights of the day for the participants was the involvement of Wexford Youths WFC and Republic of Ireland WNT stars Rianna Jarrett and Ciara Rossiter, who took over the coaching zone, sharing their knowledge and skills with the young girls.
With more emphasis on increasing the awareness of women’s and schoolgirls football in Ireland, the FAI feels it is fitting to link one of our largest grassroots programmes to the Live Your Goals campaign and to this end a number of clubs in Waterford will now begin the Aviva Soccer Sisters Club programme to help rebuild their underage structures.
Emma Martin, National Coordinator for Women’s Football, highlighted the importance of this campaign to the FAI: “The FIFA Live Your Goals campaign is key for us as we work to increase female participation. To have in excess of 100 young girls playing at the RSC is something they’ll be talking about forever more, especially getting to meet some of our role models in the women’s game, Rianna and Ciara.
"Our Women’s National League sponsors Continental Tyres have been very supportive in the Live Your Goals campaign and the Conti zone has been a big hit across all our venues this year. Planning for 2017 has already commenced and our aim is to deliver nine events nationwide within all our regions. The Live Your Goals festivals are an opportunity to promote the game locally, particularly in areas where there is a need for development of the game.
"The FAI create links with the campaign and our grassroots programmes to ensure there is sustainability and opportunities for girls to stay involved.”
