The module is run over six weeks, thus ensuring continuity of play as well as all of the exciting aspects that Futsal brings. With a number of Leagues switching to a single calendar in 2017, the Football Association of Ireland a and Fingal County Council has recognised the opportunity to provide Futsal for this period.
In all, 64 teams will be guaranteed games during a period when bad weather often plays havoc with fixture lists. Futsal momentum continues to grow in Ireland and this is also evident with new Futsal Coaching Courses being launched in 2017.
Also being offered this year is an Under 10 and Under 11 Futsal module to be played from Hollywell and Applewood Community Centres in Swords.
Commenting on the Futsal module, FAI/FCC Football Development Officers Paul Keogh and Mick Pender said: “We are delighted to once again facilitate the six weeks of Futsal this year. We are passionate about Futsal and its benefits having run this module for a number of years. The module is oversubscribed with entries already which shows there is a huge appetite by clubs and kids alike.
"With a number of Leagues switching to single calendar season there is now a clear and obvious window for Futsal and we have no doubt it will continue to develop. It is also very encouraging that other Leagues are exploring offering Futsal in January and February and we will offer all assistance as we can.”
FAI High Performance Director Ruud Dokter spoke glowingly of the module: “Futsal is a fantastic game for young players to learn and enjoy the game. The fast nature of the game ensures more touches and decisions have to be made which can only aid young Irish players. Continuity of play is important for children when learning the game and this module is aimed at just that.”
Ian Hunter, centre director Swords Pavilions stated: “We are delighted to partner with the FAI & FCC for this futsal program. It gives kids a fantastic opportunity to express their Futsal skills in a safe environment.”
Note: All places in the Futsal module have being fully allocated to teams
