A long standing chairman of the DDSL, Corcoran was vice-chairman of the Irish Soccer Scouts Association, and he also a former chairman of the SFAI and the FAI Youths committee.
Corcoran was widely known as the Manchester United scout in Ireland and played a significant role in the Old Trafford club signing Irish players including John O’Shea, Robbie Brady, Kevin Moran and Gerry Daly.
A Ringsend native, Corcoran worked for An Post before his retirement and was a highly respected figure in Irish football.
“It was very sad to hear of Joe’s passing today. He was a big friend of my father and myself over many years,” said FAI CEO John Delaney.
“He did tremendous work as a scout for Manchester United and was hugely influential in getting them to open the Aviva Stadium against the Airtricity League XI in 2010.
“He’ll be a huge loss to schoolboy football in Ireland and the game as a whole. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and we will honour Joe at the Georgia game.”
DDSL Honorary Secretary Fray Ray paid tribute to his league’s former chairman.
“Joe was a legend of schoolboy football and I believe the only role he never took in football was as referee. He began with the Bolton Athletic club in Ringsend and served on the committee of the DDSL for many years,” said Ray.
“His involvement with Manchester United dates back to the 1960s after Billy Behan stepped down and as far as I can recall he would have attended every Kennedy Cup since the competition began. He’ll be sadly missed.”
As women's football in Ireland continues to make rapid progress the new campaign will be eagerly awaited by clubs, players and supporters. In the past year Sue Ronan’s senior international side has continued to progress and integrate new talent from the league while at underage level the Republic of Ireland Women’s U17 side qualified for the UEFA finals in Iceland this summer.
Champions Wexford Youths Women's AFC are presently preparing for their UEFA Women's Champions League Qualifying Round campaign which begins on August 11 when they travel to Poland to face a group including Lithuanian side Gintra Universitetas, host club KKPK Medyk Konin and Welsh outfit Cardiff Met Ladies FC. Raheny United progressed to the knockout stage last season.
There are now eight clubs competing in the FAI Continental Tyres WNL with the addition of Kilkenny United WFC, who will play their home matches at Buckley Park. Raheny United have merged with Shelbourne and will now be known as Shelbourne Ladies FC and will continue to use Morton Stadium as their home ground.
The format of the season sees the introduction of a Shield competition to open the season on the weekend ending Sunday, September 6 with the two-round League commencing on the weekend ending Sunday, October 11. The final series of League fixtures will take place on Sunday, April 24 with the season ending on Sunday, May 1 with the FAI Continental Tyres Women's National League Cup Final.
The scheme is starting out with initial percentage allocations based on current updates from Fans’ Direct and Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs but the percentages will be reviewed and revised upwards should these numbers grow. Fans’ Direct has been open since late November and now has just under 200 registered members.
Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs account for just over 1,100 Season Tickets.
Under the proposed system, 55% of away tickets will be distributed to supporters from affiliated football Leagues and more than 2,000 clubs that fall under their remit, Board and National Council members, players / staff, Club Ireland members and Jack Charlton Lounge patrons.
15% of away tickets will be provided to supporters travelling with the FAI’s official travel partner, Abbey Travel. These supporters will have their details of match attendance at away games logged should they ever decide to apply independently for tickets.
30% of away tickets will be allocated to Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs (currently 1,100 season tickets) and to independent supporters through the new Fans’ Direct database (currently just under 200 members).
Allocations to independent supporters registered with Fans’ Direct will be made on a points based system that will be trialled for the remaining away matches in the current Euro 2016 campaign.
This system will collate data from Autumn 2012 (the start of World Cup 2014 qualification) and supporters will be awarded points as follows:
This points-based system will apply on an individual basis only.
For example, if a supporter purchases season tickets as part of a group, each member of the group will be eligible for points on an individual basis only.
When making an application to Fans’ Direct, names of the individual supporters within the group booking who are eligible for points rewards must be supplied to Fans’ Direct by the lead booker.
To register with Fans’ Direct, supporters should e-mail fansdirect@fai.ie with details of each individual they wish to register and their preferred contact email address. Those supporters who have already registered with Fans’ Direct will receive a separate email advising them of when the application period opens and do not need to re-apply.
Details for new registrations with Fans’ Direct should include:
On receipt of this information, registration will be confirmed, details will be verified, and further instructions will be provided on applications for away tickets.
Registrations for fansdirect@fai.ie will remain open until Tuesday July 28. After this date, they will close temporarily until August 10 to process applications for the Gibraltar away match on September 4.
All supporters will receive confirmation of tickets for the Gibraltar game in the week beginning, Monday August 3.
Fans’ Direct will re-open for new applicants who haven’t already registered, on Monday August 10. Registration for new members only will remain open until Monday August 24 ahead of the Poland away match on October 11.
Members of Fans’ Direct will be given relevant points totals in advance of the Poland away match.
Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs will be free to use this points based allocation system within each of their individual clubs should they wish to.
Allocations to Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs will be based on the numbers of season tickets held by each club and divided accordingly among Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs
Within the 30% of away tickets allocated to Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs and Fans’ Direct, away tickets will split on a pro-rata basis based on season tickets held by Supporters’ Clubs and the number of members registered with Fans’ Direct. Should any tickets remain after they have been offered to Fans’ Direct or Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs, they will be offered between these groupings, who will have first option on any remaining tickets.
For example, there are 9,800 confirmed away tickets available for the Gibraltar match.
30% of these, or 2,940 tickets will be made available to Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs and Fans’ Direct.
Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs have 1,100 season tickets collectively and there are 200 registered members of Fan’s Direct. Therefore, 2,487 of these tickets will be made available to Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs and 453 tickets will be made available for the 200 members of Fans’ Direct.
Within the Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs, each club will be given a pro-rata allocation of the 2,487 tickets based on the number of Season Tickets held by each club. The 453 tickets allocated to the 200 members of Fans’ Direct will be allocated through the points based system described above.
In the case of the Poland away match, there are 3,900 confirmed tickets. 30% of these, or 1,170 tickets will be made available to Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs and Fans’ Direct.
By way of example, Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs have 1,100 season tickets collectively and there are 200 registered members of Fans’ Direct. Therefore, 990 of these tickets will be made available to Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporter Clubs who hold 1,100 Season Tickets and 180 tickets will be made available for the 200 members of Fans’ Direct.
As mentioned above, the scheme is being run on a pilot basis for the remaining two away matches of the current campaign – or three if we reach a play-off. It is starting out with initial percentage allocations based on current updates from Fans’ Direct and FAI Supporters’ Clubs but these percentages will be reviewed and revised upwards should these numbers grow.
The winning club were one of eight clubs nominated for this year's award, which recognises and rewards those across the country who have shown excellence in club development this year.
The seven other finalist clubs were Greystones United (Wicklow), Strand Celtic (Sligo), Moyross United (Limerick), Baldoyle United (Dublin), Clonmel Celtic (Tipperary) and Park Rangers AFC (Waterford).
This is the 10th year of the award and it recognises four separate areas of progression in clubs: coach education, community, participation, and club development. Achill were nominated in the participation category - securing a cheque of €1,500 for that nomination - for increasing membership numbers despite a falling population and building a club that is open to all the community, actively encouraging new residents to become involved in all aspects of club life.
Achill Rovers received a cheque for €5,000 as the overall winners. Each club made impressive presentations to the panel headed by Donal Conway, chairman of the FAI underage committee, that also included representatives from FAI Club Development, Dublin City Council and Aviva.
Northern Ireland 0-2 Republic of Ireland
This age group is now coached David Bell and the Irish boss was pleased with the performance his new charges produced. The fixture was arranged to launch the famous Northern Ireland Milk Cup which will feature female teams for the first time next year.
Tiegan Ruddy put Bell's side ahead in the 55th minute when she turned the ball home after getting in front of her marker to steer home from a Lauryn O'Callaghan free-kick.
Niamh Sheehan added the second Irish goal two minutes from time when she found the net after an excellent passing move by the visitors.
"I was very pleased with the overall performance. The first 20 minutes was really good from us and in fairness for the latter part of the first half Northern Ireland had a few chances and our keeper Sophie Lenihan was very good," said Bell.
"We’d only one day together ahead of this match and were using a completely new team so I’m delighted for them. There’s a lot of work to be done for all of them but it’s a good start.
"Next up for us is that we play Scotland in September in a double-header so we will have more time with them then.
"What we worked on was basic movements and build-up from throws, free-kicks and the general discipline. They made some mistakes and that will happen with young players.
"I was pleased that we got all 20 players involved in the game. I know a few from last season such as Saoirse Noonan who is captain this year after being one of the stars last year. Hopefully she can help get the girls understand the level and help us through qualifiers in Turkey in October.
"We hope to do a few training days before Scotland to evaluate a few more players and hopefully we get the mix right going into those games. They’ll be important in our development as a team this year."
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: Sophie Lenihan (Ballindaggin United FC), Eimear Kiely (Lakewood), Zoe Green (Lagan Harps), Leah Reybet-Degat (Shelbourne Girls FC), Niamh Farrelly (Peamount United), Alexandra Kavanagh (Shelbourne Girls FC), Saoirse Noonan (Douglas Hall), Heather Payne (Salthill Devon), Lauryn O’Callaghan (Peamount United), Tiegan Ruddy (Peamount United).

The introduction of the SSE Airtricity National U17 League is key addition to the elite player pathway as the country's best young players come together to play the highest level of football every week.
Ruud Dokter said: "The creation of the SSE Airtricity National U17 League is a very important development for Irish Football.
"It provides young players in Ireland with a regular challenging environment designed to produce high quality players to progress for the future.
"This new league bridges the gap between schoolboy football, which runs up to U16 level, and the SSE Airtricity U19 League, which is now firmly established as the springboard for young talented players into adult football.
"Many of the players who play in the SSE Airtricity National U17 League will have come through the FAI’s Emerging Talent Programme, and this will give them their first opportunity to play in a national league."
The League kicks off on the weekend beginning August 9. The first season will be truncated, and will end in December in line with the SSE Airtricity U19 League. The 2016 season will kick-off in alignment with the SSE Airtricity Premier and First Division seasons.
Speaking today, SSE Airtricity Marketing Manager, Áine Murphy said: "We are very pleased to extend our sponsorship with the SSE Airtricity League to the SSE Airtricity National U17 League which we see as a natural addition to the SSE Airtricity National U19 League which we have already supported.
"SSE Airtricity is committed to playing our part in helping the growth of Irish football and are fully supportive of the SSE Airtricity National U17 League and its aims."

This Republic of Ireland Future Developers Squad is made up of players born in 1999 and 2000 who have been identified by the Emerging Talent Programme around the country but are considered players who will develop into underage internationals in the coming years.
Head Coach James Scott explained how the process has developed in the past year. To be considered for inclusion in this category, a player's BMI measurement should read 19.0 or less.
"We've been working on this for past 12 months, these are players that we feel have great potential but maybe quite tall and thin or quite small and light," he explained.
"These are players who are technically very good with great speed of thought but maybe are a little behind other players there ages physically at the moment.
"We had two assessment. The players were identified from the regional ETP centres. We had three weeks work with them and we're taking them to Brighton and Brentford next week for two good testing fixtures.
"For these players it will be an opportunity for them to see where they are in relation to the international squads. They'll be excellent players in time and this will help their progression."
Unusually the squad has been picked solely on the technical attributes of the players rather than their normal playing positions so Scott and assistant coach Paul Osam will look at the players in a variety of roles.
" There's literally only one playing who is normally a defender and we have lots of midfielders and wingers but no regular centre-forward. It's not like a normal squad," Scott added.
"We've worked on them in different positions and working on attacking and defending. It's a good opportunity for them to try different things and to see how they adapt.
"The players come from clubs all over the country and some of them are from clubs that wouldn't normally have players progress to international level so it just goes to show that there are very good players all over Ireland."

This tournament brings together teams representing the countries of origin of many nations under the guidance of famous NASL club New York Cosmos.
Led by President Tommy Smyth, Vice-President Paul Doherty and Manager Austin Friel, NYC Ireland returned to the final in the 2015 edition of the Cosmos Copa and won the tournament for the first time in team history with a 3-2 victory over NYC Columbia on August 2, 2015.
NYC Ireland came into the final after a dramatic win in the semi-finals on penalty kicks over defending champion NYC Gambia after a 1-1 draw.
The Irish opened the final by conceding an early goal to Columbia. However, less than five minutes later, the Irish were able to answer. After a shot hit the crossbar, forward Conor Hunter dived in and knocked a header over the line to tie the game at one.
Later in the half, NYC Ireland took the lead on a goal from defender and team captain Sean Kelly. Kelly got a cross in the box and took a low shot past the Colombian keeper. Columbia were able to equalize at 2-2 before half-time, which set the stage for a dramatic and hard fought second half.
With time winding down, NYC Ireland was awarded a penalty kick that was hotly contested by the Columbian players and coaching staff. However, NYC Ireland now had a clear chance to win the game and the tournament.
Without hesitation, manager Austin Friel called for the team’s leading scorer Ian Sweeney to take the penalty kick. “The guy has nerves of steel. He’s ice cold in front of goal,” said Friel. “There’s no other man I’d want in that situation.”
After scoring the tying goal on a penalty kick against NYC Gambia in the semifinals, and adding one when the game went to penalty kicks, the former Athlone Town FC forward was ready for another chance. “I wasn’t nervous at all. I took two penalty kicks in the semi-final before that,” Sweeney said.
A few minutes later, the final whistle sounded and the Irish squad hoisted the Cosmos Copa trophy above their heads in celebration that will last a long time in the memory of those who were there.
NYC Ireland is a team that features several players from Ireland and Northern Ireland who’ve previously played in the SSE Airtricity League or NIFL Premiership. Other players are Irish or Northern Irish students who play college soccer in the United States. The team also features American students who play college soccer and have either a parent or grandparent born in Ireland or Northern Ireland.
Named after the legendary NASL club, the New York Cosmos, Cosmos Copa was founded in the summer of 2009. It is a soccer tournament played in New York City between local, community based, “national teams”. The tournament brings together the best men’s players in the New York City area to compete for the honor of hoisting the Cosmos Cup while celebrating the city’s rich cultural diversity and promoting local soccer talent.
Cosmos Copa has grown into one of the most prominent and prestigious adult soccer tournaments in the United States because of the professional presentation and exposure that the players receive. It has grown from 16 teams in its founding year, to 32 teams in 2015.
Over the last three years, Cosmos Copa proved an effective tool for the New York Cosmos to find the best local talent for their NASL squad. Former players Dane Murphy, Stefan Dimitrov and Alessandro Noselli have all participated in recent tournaments.
In 2009, NYC Ireland had lost to NYC Albania and came into this year’s tournament looking to capture a trophy that had eluded them since. Reflecting on the loss back in 2009 and the seven year wait to get back to the final, Friel said, “it’s been a long hard struggle. It hasn’t even sunk in yet that we’ve finally won it.”
Both Friel and Sweeney said NYC Ireland were dedicating the win to team Vice President Paul “Doc” Doherty, who was back home in Ireland. Doherty has been a major contributor to NYC Ireland since the team’s inception in 2009.
Team President and famed ESPN commentator Tommy Smyth said, “A big well done from Cobh to the Boys in Green in NY for winning the Cosmos Copa. So much hard work was done by you guys it was great that it paid off in the end. To the coaches and staff, thank you for having the team in tip top shape. To every player who pulled on a jersey, thank you for your time and dedication. To the fans who gave great support, you were the 12th man to Austie’s Green Army. Sorry I missed out on all the fun. Again well done and thank you to everybody, Tommy.”
Besides Sweeney, midfielder Ciaran McGuigan and forward Daryl Kavanagh were among the players who had played recently in the SSE Airtricity League. McGuigan’s performance resulted in him receiving the Cosmos Copa 2015 Golden Ball Award, which is awarded to the tournament’s best player.
The success of this year’s team will serve as a foundation for next year’s team and perhaps Sweeney, McGuigan, or one of the other players will get an opportunity to showcase their ability for the New York Cosmos or one of the other professional clubs in the United States.
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND FUTURES 0-2 BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
This squad is made up of players who have outstanding technical ability but have yet to reach full development physically.
Brighton began brightly and scored after 10 minutes and it took time for the Irish side to get into their stride as they played into a strong breeze.
Ireland's first change came in the 35th minute when Eoin Wall was unlucky not to score with a near post shot.
The Irish coaching staff made seven changes at half-time and in the second half the visitors produced an impressive display and several times came close to scoring through Wall, Sean Martin, Sean Hughes, Cian McAllister and Justin Croke.
Brighton scored very much against the run of play on the 56 minute with a long range effort to clinch the win but coach James Scott was pleased with how the Irish fared.
"Overall we were very happy with the game," he said. "It took our boys a while to get to the pace of the game but once they did they competed very well and with more composure in their finishing could have a couple of goals."
The Republic of Ireland Futures will meet Brentford FC's academy on Thursday at Hayes & Yeading FC (2pm).
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND FUTURES: Jason McCallion (Brian Maher 40), Jaze Kabia (Justin Croke 40), Corrie Lee Bogan (Sean Martin 40), Aaron Fitzgerald, Ryan Burke, Aodh Dervin (Dean Beresford 40), William Armshaw (Promise Omochere 40), Jack Ford (Cormack Kelly 40), Eoin Wall, Sean Hughes , Lewis O’Neill (Cian McAllister 40).
The Dubliner spoke to FAI TV this summer as he completed his UEFA A licence in Cork.
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND FUTURE DEVELOPERS 3-1 BRENTFORD FC
After another slow start the Irish fell behind to a close range finish after ten minutes before James Scott's side eventually settled down and began to exert their own influence on proceedings.
Justin Croke was unlucky not to equalise for the Irish midway through the first half after a breakaway attack.
After 35 minutes William Armshaw scored an excellent goal to level matters after cutting in from the wing, beating two players and finishing into the bottom corner.
Armshaw then came close to adding a second goal with a long range effort moments later .
The Irish management team made six changes at half-time and went on to produce an excellent second half display with long periods of possession football that led to the creation of a number of chances.
Eoin Wall put the Irish ahead on 55 minutes after beating his marker on the touchline before finishing with style at the near post.
Wall then added another goal in the 63rd minute after his initial shot came off the post and he was first to react to convert the rebound.
"It was a very similar game to the Brighton game as we started slowly but once we adjusted to the pace of the game we performed very well and we took our chances," said Irish coach James Scott.
"The three days has been an excellent experience for the players and how they conducted themselves on and off the pitch was first class.
"From our perspective we'd like to extend many thanks to John Morling at Brighton & Hove Albion and Anthony Hayes at Brentford FC for their hospitality and facilitating these games."
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND FUTURE DEVELOPERS: Brian Maher (Jason McCallion 40), Dean Beresford (Aodh Dervin 40), Corrie Lee Bogan, Sean Martin, Jack Ford (Ryan Burke 40), Aaron Fitzgerald, Jaze Kabia (Lewis O’Neill 40), Cormack Kelly (Sean Hughes 40), Justin Croke (Promise Omochere 70), Cian McAillister (Eoin Wall 40), Promise Omochere (William Armshaw 30).

Sean Murray (Wigan Athletic)
On loan from Watford for a month to build up match sharpness, the ex-Ireland Under 21 winger could turn out to be a shrewd signing for Wigan as they aim to bounce back from their opening day defeat to Coventry City.

Will Doyle’s team have done as much preparation as they possibly could for their three qualifying round matches in Poland, so it’s simply a case of getting the games underway.
Wexford are in this position courtesy of winning the Continental Tyres Women’s National League last season. That magnificent feat was achieved by playing slick, attacking football and they want to bring that into Europe.
It is why they have added extra quality in their midfield in the shape of Ruth Fahy and Emma Hansberry – two proven players in the League – and also brought back Clare Conlon, Linda Douglas, and Maria Delahunty.
However, the squad who got them this far will be heavily relied on again and O’Riordan’s goals could be crucial. The Limerick native netted 21 goals last term and while she modestly downplays her contribution, she will be a key player.
“At the end of the day, it’s a team effort and it doesn’t matter who scores as long as it goes into the back of the net. It’s obviously nice to get goals, but it’s really all about the three points,” said O’Riordan.
“I’m hoping that I will score in Poland because that is how I help the team, but anyone can score goals and set-pieces could be crucial. Everyone is looking forward to it and we’ve been preparing for it.
“This is our chance and hopefully we’ll grab it by the neck. Raheny and Peamount did really well in the last few years in the Champions League, so we hope that we can match what they did and prove that we’re capable of doing it.”
Wexford get started in the Champions League on Tuesday against Lithuanian side Gintra Universitetas before taking on hosts Medyk Konin on Thursday and Cardiff Met on Sunday.
