FAI give backing to Castleview development plans

Tuesday morning started with a visit to Castleview AFC. The club showed plans to build a new clubhouse at O’Sullivan Park, with FAI Chief Executive John Delaney confirming the Association will help in any future funding applications.

Schoolboys players from AFC Rockmount formed a guard of honour for the FAI Delegation, as the club showed ther current redevelopments taking place at the Rockmount Park clubhouse. 

It was also announced that club stalwart John Delay is to receive a John Sherlock Services to Football Award.

At Leeds AFC, service users of the Cope Foundation played in a Football for All game with Republic of Ireland WNT players Amanda Budden, Amber Barrett and former internationals Stephen Kelly and Stephen Hunt.

Mayfield United are 49-years-old this year, and the club asked FAI Chief Executive John Delaney to plant a remembrance tree in honour of those club members who has passed away in recent years.

The day ended with a trip to Cobh where two clubs were visited. Cobh Wanderers showed plans to develop an all-weather pitch as part of the Cobh4Football project and also officially opened their new gymnasium in the Clubhouse.

From there it was on to Springfield Ramblers where it was announced Chairperson John Coughlan will receive a John Sherlock Services to Football Award.

All six clubs received specific grants, as well as match tickets for kids to attend a Republic of Ireland MNT game at Aviva Stadium, and a commitment to continue aiding their plans for future development.

The day’s final event saw a visit to St. Colman’s Park, where Derry City were drawn at home in the EA SPORTS Cup Final against Cobh Ramblers.

Tomorrow sees the third of the Family Fun Days at Midleton FC from 2pm, while six further grassroots clubs will be visited including Lakewood Athletic, while 14 UEFA Pro Licence coaches will receive their licences.
