Run in conjunction with An Garda Siochana, Local Authorities and the Department of Youth and Childrens Affairs, the significant difference with this year’s Programme delivery has been the growth of girls participation in this diversionary scheme – with 80 female players present at Irishtown Stadium.
The Finals Night represents the culmination of six-week local tournaments held in 26 locations within the four Dublin local authorities’ area plus two areas in Meath and one in Bray.
Positive civic behaviour and good sportsmanship art the core ethos of the Programme – with Ireland match tickets on offer for teams that display such traits.
The initiative facilitates the use of football as a soft-channel of communication for Gardao to engage with an often difficult to reach target group.
