The four-time winners defeated UCC in last year’s final in the university competition that is exclusive to first-year students. Their historical rivals have amassed nineteen successes in the competition since its inception in 1970.

All Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals of the three day tournament are set to be played in the AUL Grounds for the second consecutive season after DCU hosted the 2018 edition. Last year’s hosts will face University of Limerick in their opening tie. The Limerick side have enjoyed a fantastic start to the CUFL season with their Premier Division side, aided by a strong influx of first year students.

In the other ties, Maynooth University will play NUI Galway and UCC are waiting for confirmation of their opposition with the eighth team yet to be announced. The mentioned trio are all represented in the CUFL with fresher-exclusive teams with Maynooth University securing qualification to the Quarter-Finals of Division Three as group winners with UCC finishing as runners-up in their Division Two group and Galway just missing out on the knockout rounds as they finished third in their Western group.
