FAI pays its respects to John Gilligan RIP

Mr Gilligan passed away peacefully after an illness earlier today. He was well known in football circles for many years for his involvement in the LFL and previously worked with Rowntree Macintosh.

He spent more than 30 years with the LFL in various roles and was previously with Palmerstown Rangers. He was fixtures secretary of the LFL and then served as treasurer. John was also an integral part of the counties section of the Leinster Junior League which pre-dated the current Combined Counties Football League and the Kildare District Football League.

He was beloved husband of Bernadette and dear father of Susan, Sean and Lorraine. Predeceased by his wife Peg. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

"John was a gentleman and his death is a sad loss to the Leinster Football League in particular, who he served for so many years. We will pay tribute to him at the forthcoming international against Slovakia," said FAI CEO John Delaney.

ARRANGEMENTS: Reposing at Cunningham's Funeral Home, Church Avenue, Blanchardstown on Saturday evening between 4pm and 6pm. Reposing at his home on Sunday evening from 5pm to 7pm. Removal to St. Brigid’s Church, Blanchardstown on Monday morning arriving for Requiem Mass at 10am followed by burial in Palmerstown Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, to St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown.
